alternator removal

Hi guys,I'm new here.Thanks for adding me to the group.

  My problem is ,I am replacing the alternator by way of removing the axle assembly (maybe not the best way?) but I'm

already at that point.So,anyway I am to the point of trying to remove the top bolt (stud) and the duct is in the way.Can I just pull

that piece out of the way since the bolt is out of it? And does anyone have any tips or tricks that could possibly make this a 

little easier? Thanks
