RPM's drop slowly

For some weird reason the RPM's in my escape drop slower then a regular vehicle. Whether I'm revving it in neutral or shifting to 2nd from 1st the rpm's take a couple seconds to drop when it should drop to about 600 rpm quickly when the clutch is fully engaged.
