I just bought a 2008 escape. It has ran great for the week so far. Tonight, my wife and I were sitting in it for a moment with the ignition to ACC before we went to the store. As we were sitting there, I thought I heard ticking. We turned the air off (radio already off) and you can hear a faint sound coming from what seems to be right under the clock on the inside. With everything off, it didn't sound like ticking after all, but like something with a gear that keeps spasming out, going back and forth with no specific pattern. You can barely hear it from under the hood and it won't stop unless you turn the key to off. As soon as you turn it back on it goes right back at it and it continues when turning the engine on. My first thought was maybe an air vent door or something? I turned the air back on and switched between each setting with each working fine. You can hear the actuator and everything moving with no problem. My second thought was how it sounds almost like a CD drive spinning back and forth trying to frantically read something. Its a 6 disc CD changer, but I had no discs in it. I hadn't even tried the CD player yet, so I grabbed 6 CD's to make sure it all worked, which it does. The sound still persisted while testing it, unchanged. I tried the ol' bang on it trick, but of course that did nothing. Its a faint sound that completely drowns out with drive noise and air/music, but I know it wasn't doing that when I bought it and it can be quite strange to listen to as you sit in 'silence'. What would this be? What is underneath the dash right there that would be spasming like that? Could the dealer have made this stop for a while through the puter? I've scoured the net, but can't find anyone with a sound like this. I could probably upload a clip of it if needed. Any help is greatly appreciated!!! And I'll follow up with any further information.

Hi All, I hope I'm doing this correctly? It's my first post after years of viewing other posts! :-) I have a 2001 V6 Ford Escape, which is on close to its last legs. She's a complete dog, if I'm being honest - 200,000 miles on the clock! But due to financial constraints, I keep it running doing usually my own mechanical work, rather than upgrading to a more reliable newer car. Currently, it's making a weird sound, that I hoped someone might know something about?? The car makes a weird, fairly loud groaning/creaking kind of sound whenever I turn left (it's not a full lock hard left turn thing - it does it even on half a turn, if the speed is about between say 10 and 25 miles an hour). There are quite a few undiagnosed oil leaks around the engine, if that makes a difference to the below points? Some details: It only makes this creaking noise under load - ie when accelerating a little bit round or through a corner, at a minimum of say 10 mph speed The noise STOPS IMMEDIATELY if I keep the accelerator down but knock the column auto stickshift into "neutral" - in other words, if the revs are still up but the gearbox is instantly taken out of the equation, the sound instantly disappears It does it quite a bit more when the car is warmed up than when it's cold It ONLY does it turning left - NEVER right The car needs to be cornering under a little load - 2 miles an hour won't replicate it, but around 10 and up will. It doesn't occur at all if I am stopped and just spin the steering wheel full lock in either direction - it only does it when I'm driving forward AND when the gearbox is engaged in drive or other gears. So it seems not to be a steering box issue, as that works fine when stopped and just spinning the steering wheel - no groans. It does it in all the auto gears, not just drive. It sounds like creaking shockies/suspension, but due to the fact that it ONLY does it when the gearbox is engaged, it must be gearbox related, do you think? When I knock it all of a sudden into neutral under slight accelerator load, the noise instantly disappears. Any advice at all would be very much appreciated, thank you, from Australia! StuMur

2013 Escape Started hearing this around 120,000 kms Clunk when turning and the car body leans then a returning clunk when the body returns, strut bearings, sway bar links and bushings replaced did not affect symptom "clunk". At 143,000 kms the "clunk" is more pronounced and obvious to everyone in the car. 6 hours in the garage provided no soultion, all suspesion and steering mechanisms and linkages are tight, it almost feels/sounds like the body or sub-frame is flexing.

I have a 2001 Ford Escape V6 Engine. I recently noticed my engine is really loud when I drive it. I ran codes and the only codes I received were about cylinders misfiring, which is a whole other issue. The engine is making a screeching noise. I removed the serpentine belt and noise goes away, but the belt is in good condition. I spun the alternator, A/C compressor, tensioner and that middle pulley by hand and they’re all smooth. Any ideas??
