Engine swap for 2006 Escape--2.3 liter

Hello all, Newbie here. I am interested in a 2006 Ford Escape XLS (base model) with a 2.3 liter engine. The vehicle has a bunch of new parts, including a new transmission, but the engine is blown. The reason I am interested in this is because there is a mission organization, that does various work in Guatemala (medical/dental missions, feeding programs, and an orphanage), which is looking for vehicle donations to send down there. I am thinking of picking up this vehicle and either swapping out the engine with a used engine or partially rebuilding this engine (depending on what the problem is). I can do it in my garage and am very mechanically inclined (I successfully rebuilt the 4.0 liter SOHC engine in my Ford Ranger 4-1/2 years ago). If I do this, once the work is complete I will donate it to the organization (and even volunteer to drive it down to Guatemala!). My question for the mechanics on this forum is what is involved with an engine R&R for this vehicle? Will it have to come out the bottom? With or without tranny? Will any parts of the subframe need to be removed? If there are any instructional files that can be uploaded to give me a rough idea of what is involved I would appreciate that info. Unfortunately I do not have a vehicle lift but have a cherry picker. Thanks in advance for your help.
