2004 Ford Escape XLS quick connectors

The hose that attaches to coolant reservoir and to the radiator has broken off at radiator with only a couple threads left but not enough to clamp hose back on.  I'm hoping a heater hose connector will help.  Or a brass hose barb.  How do i get broken plactic attached to radiator off so i can put on a new connector?  Also what size do i buy?  1/2 by 1/2?  I have no idea where to find the size needed.
